A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Lily.

“Where are you from?” has never been a one-word answer for me.

I was born in China, went to primary school in Japan, and called Canada home from middle school well into adulthood. Each place has shaped a different part of me. In mid-2024, I moved again—this time to a Caribbean island.

I sometimes wonder whether I have the travel bug or whether moving between countries has simply become part of who I am. My early travels were immigrations—each move meant making a home and starting again. At 11 or 12, I wasn’t thinking about how lucky I was to experience another culture. I was a girl figuring out how to fit in somewhere new, probably wishing things could stay familiar for a little longer.

Looking back now, I’m grateful. Growing up across different countries shaped how I see the world, how I relate to people, and what it means to feel at home. It also left me curious about how people live in other places.

Along the way, I spent more than 20 years in financial advisory and consulting. A fairly conventional career for someone with a slightly less conventional upbringing, perhaps—but I made very good use of my vacation days. Researching, asking questions and digging into details were part of my working life, and they came with me on every trip.

Then I had kids, and the questions multiplied.

How many actual beds are in that “family room”? Can visiting kids join a local camp? What language is it in? Can we build a holiday around something they’re curious about—and leave room for things we enjoy, too?

Planning our own family trips became the starting point for Better Break Co. I wanted to make those details easier to find and bring together ideas for trips where we could explore, learn and grow. A surf lesson, a local camp, a new city or time spent somewhere unfamiliar can all become part of how our kids get to know the world. And how we keep getting to know it ourselves.

That curiosity extends to trips without kids, too. A couple’s escape, a holiday with friends or a solo adventure—I’m always happy to have another trip to think about.

Today, as a travel advisor affiliated with Fora Travel, I bring that same care and attention to planning for others. From choosing the right hotel to putting together itineraries, tours and restaurants, I help make the pieces fit your interests, budget and pace—with hotel perks where available.

Bring me your wish list, even the half-formed one. We’ll start there.
