They’re inflatable and packable, so I’d also bring them on a trip where the kids would be sleeping in a regular bed and I wanted something along the edges to help keep them from rolling off.
I’m thinking of those hotel setups with a full/double bed for one or two kids, or a generously sized twin for one. As long as the bed is suitable and there’s enough room to sleep comfortably, the idea of packing these little bumpers makes a lot of sense to me. Just don’t forget them under the sheet when you check out!
Before you put them in your suitcase, ask the hotel. Some already have bed bumpers or rails available, so you may be able to reserve what you need and leave yours at home.
Mine lasted about two years before they started losing air and wouldn’t stay inflated. They were well used for those two years, though, so that’s the honest trade-off: a useful little addition to our bed setup, but mine didn’t last forever.
These go under a fitted sheet, with the anchoring flap spread over the mattress as directed. Each bumper measures 52 × 7 × 4.5 inches and weighs about 1 lb; a carry bag is included and you can inflate them by mouth.
Portable bed rails are for children who can get in and out of bed unassisted, typically ages 2–5, and should not be used under age 2. Check the product label and bed compatibility, and follow the installation guidance. Stop using a bumper that won’t stay inflated.
