I own and use both the 55L and 70L Black Hole Duffels, and love how packable they are. They come in a variety of fun colours, and each one tucks into its own pocket to make a neat little rectangle.

They’re favourites for when I need a tad more space coming home from a holiday, or for trips where my bags need to stand up to rougher handling.

Patagonia lists the current versions at just 1.18 kg (about 2.6 lbs) for the 55L and 1.37 kg (about 3 lbs) for the 70L. Easy to tuck into my luggage on the way there, with room for that extra souvenir I couldn’t leave behind on the way home.

What I’m eyeing next

Wheeled Duffel 70L · Approx. US$410

The latest rework of the Black Hole Wheeled Duffel 70L has caught my eye. At just over 9 lbs empty (4.1 kg), I’m still weighing up whether the extra weight over my regular duffel is worth the ease of wheeling it along. It’s still lighter than many large hardside checked suitcases, which makes it tempting!
