TripIt
Free · Optional Pro US$49/year
TripIt is one of the easiest ways I’ve found to keep a trip organized, and the free version is totally fine. Flights, hotels, tours, dinner reservations—all those confirmations scattered around your inbox become one itinerary you can actually make sense of, simply by forwarding them to plans@tripit.com.
What I like is how easy it is to scan the trip and find the details I need: flight dates and times, duration, layovers where available, confirmation codes and hotel check-in and check-out times. Having everything laid out in order makes it much easier to see how the bookings fit together without opening ten different emails.
You don’t have to be someone who wants a detailed, hour-by-hour itinerary to find this useful. Sometimes you just want to know that the basics line up—and catch that “oops, I’m checking out a day earlier than I should be” moment before you’re standing at reception. Seeing the bookings together makes a missing hotel night much easier to spot.
For me, that’s the appeal: a simple way to see what’s booked, when it’s happening and where the gaps are. You can leave the rest of the day open and still feel organized, without paying for a subscription to do it.
Create a free TripIt account, then forward confirmations to plans@tripit.com from an email address linked to your account. You can add or edit plans manually if a confirmation doesn’t import correctly or a detail is missing.
TripIt Pro is optional and adds extras such as real-time flight alerts. It is listed at US$49 per year with a 30-day free trial; check the current Pro terms. You don’t need it to organize your bookings into an itinerary.
