For a child who isn’t ready for a regular booster but meets RideSafer’s age, size and fit requirements, this is one I’d look at when carrying a bulky car seat everywhere just isn’t practical. I’ve used it with my son, and he “tolerated” it—which counts as a win in my books.

It’s not the lightest thing in my bag, and it isn’t tiny beside the hiccapop booster when that’s deflated and folded. But if the alternative is lugging a full-sized car seat around? This is an ant compared with it.

Can you pair it with a booster?

Don’t combine the RideSafer vest with the hiccapop inflatable booster. Safe Ride 4 Kids says using another manufacturer’s booster with the vest falls outside the products’ specifications because they haven’t been crash-tested together.

The vest is designed to work on its own. If you want an approved booster pairing for added sitting height, the TravelSmarter Booster (approx. US$69) has been tested with it. The Delighter Booster link now leads to that same TravelSmarter listing. Adding height isn’t automatically an extra safety measure; follow the instructions for both products. Read the pairing guidance.

Check the fit before you travel

This is not an infant restraint or a reason to move out of a rear-facing car seat early. Choose by the current age and size chart, the label on your exact vest and its instructions—not age alone. Follow the belt and tether requirements, and check that it’s permitted at your destination. It is not currently FAA-approved for use on an aircraft.
